Students Ask To Rename School For Barack Obama

Out of the mouths of babes, as the old saying goes. Children see truth. They can look you in the eye and see exactly who you are. Put Obama and McCain in the same room and see which one the baby crawls to. The whole story is here, this is the gist of it.

A New York elementary school has been re-named in honor of President-elect Barack Obama. Ludlum Elementary School in Long Island's Hempstead Union Free School District was re-named at a board meeting Thursday, at the request of numerous school students.
Effective immediately, Ludlum will now be known as Barack Obama Elementary School, following a decision by the board to adopt the resolution drafted by students and staff. The board adopted the resolution by a vote of 5-0, re-naming the school immediately.

"The lesson in civics and democracy that these kids learned and even the process of coming before a public body and making a presentation, it was all child-oriented and that's what touched me," said an "enormously proud" Laria.

Barack Obama inspires by his example. On his long road to the White House he has consistently shown what one can do with will and determination. Just as he has inspired these very young people in Long Island he has energized people worldwide. One hundred thousand in St. Louis is an accomplishment but two hundred thousand in Berlin shows the depth of feeling among citizens of the world. In him they see Americans taking back their country from the evil bastards who have been shaming us with the greedy and perverted actions they have perpetrated in our name for the last 8 years. Now our children no longer see people burning American flags abroad. They see masses of people, many themselves denied basic rights, gathering in the streets to celebrate one mans accession to power in a land where racism was not only tolerated but written into law. It's not the end of racism here or in the world but its a hell of a good forward step. His charisma, intelligence, judgement and the enthusiasm he generates shows he will be a major leader in this century and will certainly inspire people worldwide for generations to come.

Obama, a name for the history books.

Mrs. Obama's Booty - A new Aspect

In, one finds a different and very interesting examination of President Elect Obama's wife Michelle. That is meant literally, see they're talking about her ass. I may be going out on a limb to say only a female could get away with writing this type of study. Here's some excerpts:

But what really thrills me, what really feels liberating in a very personal way, is the official new prominence of Michelle Obama. Barack's better half not only has stature but is statuesque. She has coruscating intelligence, beauty, style and -- drumroll, please -- a butt. (Yes, you read that right: I'm going to talk about the first lady's butt.)

I noted her business suits and the fact she hardly ever wore pants (unlike Hillary). As I gradually relaxed, as Michelle strode onto more stages and people started focusing on her clothes and presence instead of her patriotism, it dawned on me -- good God, she has a butt! "Obama’s baby (mama) got back," wrote one feminist blogger. "OMG, her butt is humongous!" went a typical comment on one African-American online forum, and while it isn't humongous, per se, it is a solid, round, black, class-A boo-tay. Try as Michelle might to cover it with those Mamie Eisenhower skirts and sheath dresses meant to reassure mainstream voters, the butt would not be denied.

I winced when I heard about "The Daily Show" spot in which two people in Florida disapprovingly described Michelle as a "horse" with a big "tuchis" -- I give them the tuchis, but the animal reference was jarring. Of course, Michelle's been described very unkindly all year; one blogger called her King Kong's sister. The primal antipathy to all things black has stood right alongside the euphoria of the Obamas' rise, and it's unnerving, to say the least. Michelle, for her part, gritted her teeth -- she actually does that -- and continued smiling and waving. That's politics, but it's also what aspiring blacks have always done in the face of insult and resistance: Bear it. Walk through it.

I for one, never looked at that aspect !

While we are in that particular area, this is something from the UK Telegraph.

I guess it's move over Mr Potato Head, heres Mr Potato Ass :

A vicar attended hospital with a potato stuck up his bottom - and claimed it got there after he fell on to the vegetable while naked. The clergyman, in his 50s, told nurses he had been hanging curtains when he fell backwards on to his kitchen table. He happened to be nude at the time of the mishap, said the vicar, who insisted he had not been playing a sex game. The vicar had to undergo a delicate operation to extract the vegetable, one of a range of odd items medics in Sheffield have had to remove from people's backsides or genitals. Others include a can of deodorant, a cucumber, a Russian doll - and a carnation.
Speaking of the vicar, A & E nurse Trudi Watson, of Sheffield's Northern General Hospital, said: "He explained to me, quite sincerely, he had been hanging curtains naked in the kitchen when he fell backwards on to the kitchen table and on to a potato. "But it's not for me to question his story. He had to undergo surgery to have it removed."
A hospital trust spokeswoman in Sheffield said: "Like all busy hospitals we do see some unusual accidents. "But our staff deal with them in a discreet, professional and kind way."

And this is a clergyman ? .....Oh-ma Gawd !....... I wonder what , upon his return , the subject of his first sermon will be.......leave a comment if you can think up a zinger.

The Mills Double Dewey Slot Machine

Art exists in many forms . Here is one of the most beautiful slot machines you will ever see. This a Mills Double Dewey, named after Admiral Dewey of Spanish American War fame. Fewer than 30 are known to exist and this one, unlike most of those few, even plays music . It brought about 52,000 dollars at auction. Damn , I wish I had a game room. I made a living selling antiques for quite a few years . Never though, did I own (even temporarily) anything this magnificent. There was a glory in even the everyday things, once upon a time. Craftsmen made something of function and style that would last. That's why so many people love antiques. Progress giveth and progress taketh away.

Beyond That First Puppy

This story is from the fine website Crooks and Liars. President Elect Obama has a heart to match his brain.

Much has been made lately of the Obama's pursuit of a puppy for their daughters. As we all wait to finally put an end to the national disgrace that is the George W. Bush presidency, a little distraction from the doom and gloom is more than welcomed by a giddy American populace anxious to move on.
And while this obsession (the photo above was the #1 emailed photo at this week) probably says something about the American people there are some more serious aspects to this story, beyond a simple promise made by the Obama's to their daughters Malia and Sasha.
The above photo shows Obama with "Baby," a three-legged dog that lost its fourth limb following years of mistreatment at a California puppy mill. The toy poodle spent much of its life locked in a small wire cage. The breeders cut out Baby's vocal chords so that they would not have to hear her cries. In cages next to her, other dogs literally went insane, spinning repetitively with blank stares. Still others were gravely ill, maimed and had filthy, matted coats. A number was tattooed on the inside of Baby's ear, marking her as just one of many dogs at the mill.
Barack Obama posed for this picture for Jana Kohl's book A Rare Breed of Love. Obama has co-sponsored Dick Durbin's Bill to crack down on abusive puppy mills, and has earned the first ever presidential endorsement from the Human Society.
The Obama's desire to get a shelter dog has inspired great interest in animal advocacy sites such as and the ASPCA.
Tell me that people fear for this country , with such a man as this in charge ? Sheee-it !

Midnight Music Club #1

My friend Randy turned me on to this..........................From Woodstock - With A Little Help From My Friends.........I have heard this song all my life but never like this. It is definitely one of the funniest I have ever seen. It seems Joe attempted to improve on the lyrics of Lennon - McCartney and he did, at least, make it more interesting.

More Wisdom From Pancake Head Palin

" BLITZER: Does that mean you want to come up with a new Sarah Palin initiative that you want to release right now.
PALIN: Gah! Nothing specific right now. Sitting here in these chairs that I’m going to be proposing but in working with these governors who again on the front lines are forced to and it’s our privileged obligation to find solutions to the challenges facing our own states every day being held accountable, not being just one of many just casting votes or voting present every once in a while, we don’t get away with that. We have to balance budgets and we’re dealing with multibillion dollar budgets and tens of thousands of employees in our organizations. "

Gah ! ..................Nothing specific here at all...............actually , nothing said either because Princess Sparkle Pony strings together buzz words and generally noble rhetoric. Sadly , it's enough to excite the fundies and the bubbas. They love her down at the four wheel mud bog. They love her down at the Church of Fuck You, I've Got Mine. She has to be the first beauty queen that is against world peace. Everyone please donate to her next campaign, and Huck's and Mittens' and Rooty's because to watch the Republicans tear each other apart for the next few years will be .....well.....sublime.

The Sarah image is done by the artist Dan Lacey. He does others with a pancake on their head and he has Condi Rice with a jockstrap on her head. Isn't the internets great ?

Obama Ruins Oval Office Rug on Visit

This from The American Silly Party:

Obama Ruins Oval Office Rug on Visit

Tensions were high as Barack Obama not only interrupted the current occupant's day of doing nothing, but managed to destroy a piece of American history in the process. Breaking White House protocol, the President-Elect chose to stop and smell some of the offerings in the famous Rose Garden. Upon entering the Oval Office, Obama proceeded to track soil and mulch throughout the workplace of the most powerful leader in the free world. "You would have thought he would wipe his feet", said an obviously agitated President Bush, "I knew he wasn't ready for this job."Later Bush revised his statement. "I really don't care, but Laura's goingto throw a tizzy fit."

Veterans Day

Bless our veterans. Let us honor their sacrifice by living good lives.

Remember us
we were just kids - the most of us
not militant, not warriors
and certainly not men
but trying just as hard as
any can imagine to be so
just ordinary guys
like you
and had we made it home we would be
standing where you stand,
quiet with the thoughts you think
no different
the same

just guys
........looking to be home.

- Poem on The Washington County ( Pa. ) Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial

My father was a paratrooper in the 17th Airborne Division . He was in the Battle of the Bulge and other actions in Belgium, Holland and Germany . His brother Alex also served in WW II as did five of my mothers' brothers. My Uncle John was a tanker with Patton and earned the Bronze Star with V, the Croix DeGuerre and four bronze battle stars. My stepfather fought at Guam and Okinawa with the army's 77th Division, US Marines on Guam nicknamed them the "77th Marine Division". Another uncle was disabled in Korea. I have several second cousins who are presently in the middle east. I hope they and all the others safely return from the madness men make.

Terry Kelly on taking a bit of time to remember the ones who served.

What New Hell Is this ?

The brilliant alcoholic Dorothy Parker , when the phone would ring would ask " What new Hell is this ? ". Now I can relate to that one gets telegrams anymore so bad news usually comes by phone. I am a little guarded when I answer the phone because really you just never know . Do you ever get the creepy feeling that something is sneaking up on you ? That bad vibes are swooping around your house like a lice infested flapping bird, ready to shit a gutful of woe down your chimney ? That there is some drooling harpy, reeking of mendacity and noisily masticating God knows what just beyond the limit of your peripheral vision, ready to leap onto you and start tearing soft strips of flesh off the small of your back ? That when you sleep rheumy yellow eyes are searching out your life source, to feast on you for their own temporary fulfillment ? Not me , I'm usually a pretty cheerful guy who doesn't worry about what he can't see. It's the living that scare me. Lord, please don't let this guy ( click pic for larger image, and prepare to be weirded out ) attend MY viewing. At least don't leave my corpse alone with him. Have the old women sit up all night to keep the flies and creeps off me, please !

Zinneas on my Coffee Table

A killing frost was forecast so I went out and picked these from under the window . Zinneas are amazing , sometimes they will live for 2 weeks in water with no loss of color .

First Breath.........

Bring The Boys Home ........this image is an appropriate place to start. Our new President will do just that , I am sure , as soon as practical . The election had me scared for a while but our people stood up and rejected the politics of fear and division that ruled for eight long years . I think now we have the best chance to live up to the idea of what we are all about . Its beautiful to realize that so many people looked past color and elected such a man as Barack Obama . Today he and his wife go to the White House to meet with Mr. Bush and Laura and someone wrote "I can't believe Obama is already sitting down today with an unpopular, aggressive world leader without preconditions. "
